LeVar Burton is an actor, director and author. His role as Kunta Kinte in “Roots” was his first professional acting job that led to being nominated as Best Actor in a Drama Series. He is well known as the host and executive producer of “Reading Rainbow,” a PBS series for children that, at 23 seasons, makes it one of the longest running children’s programs on the network. It also was awarded 26 Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award. In his role as La Forge on “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” Burton was called the New Spock. He also appeared in the subsequent Star Trek feature films, as well as directing two episodes of “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” and several episodes of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Star Trek: Voyager,” and “Star Trek: Enterprise.”
